My first typewriter
I first sat at a typewriter more than 50 years ago as a cadet journalist on a regional newspaper in Bundaberg, Queensland.
I did not call myself a writer then. I was simply doing work I loved: asking questions, listening carefully, finding the thread, shaping the story, and meeting the deadline.
I still remember that newsroom. The clatter of typewriters. Reporters and sub-editors bustling to meet daily newspaper deadlines. The pressure. The quiet thrill of articles taking shape.
In many ways, that has been the pattern of my career since.
Over the decades, I have worked in journalism, government, education, the Catholic Church, religious publishing, and my own editorial business.
The settings changed, but the work remained remarkably consistent: words, ideas, people, purpose, and the challenge of turning experience into something clear, useful, and meaningful.

Owning the work;
owning the way
Finally, I began to own the word ‘writer’.
About 14 years ago, a cardiologist asked me if I knew a ghost writer. "Me," I said.
He had a book in him, but needed help getting it onto the page. From a wad of notes and jottings about an inch thick, I wrote his first book, Have You Planned Your Heart Attack?
That book was the beginning of a long and trusted collaboration.
I have now written 10 non-fiction books, including a series of six heart health books with leading cardiologists and medical specialists.
That work has taught me a great deal about clarity, discipline, collaboration, trust, and the long road from a good idea to finished work.

I know the terrain
Along the way, I began to notice that capable women reach a point where they know there is still more in them — more to say, more to create, more to contribute — but they are not quite sure how to make that happen.
I don't think that's unusual. Most of us meet it at some stage, at some depth or another. All I noticed it first in others, I also recognise it within myself.
That is why I coach. I know the terrain.
I know what it is to carry years of experience, responsibility, ideas, unfinished dreams, and the quiet sense that there is still something more. And I have learnt that the way forward is rarely a grand reinvention.
More often, it begins with space to think, words to name what matters, workable structure to take action, and support to keep going.
That is the work I now offer.

My coaching is grounded in lived experience, clear thinking, practical action, and the belief that women can begin again by finding their expression, building momentum, and shaping a next chapter that does not have to be loud to be powerful.
I became a Certified High Performance Coach in 2019 and have continued that accreditation annually
My work brings together writing and other forms of personal expression, coaching, reflection, practical action, and the belief that women do not need to become someone else in order to move forward.
Often, they simply need space, structure, encouragement, and a clear next step.
This is the heart of my coaching:
to help thoughtful women reconnect with what matters, regain momentum, and begin shaping the next chapter of their lives with clarity, courage, and purpose.
